Arrival & Beginning of the Ramayana Yatra

  • Assemble at Cochin International Airport. Meet Santamonica’a malayalee tour manager and together board your flight to Bandaranaike International Airport . On arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and proceed towards Dambulla via Chilaw.
  • Visit Munneshwaram Temple, one of the most ancient and significant Shaivite temples in Sri Lanka, with history dating back over 1,000 years. As per the Ramayana, Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva here after defeating King Ravana, seeking absolution for the sin of Brahma Hatya. The temple complex includes shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Goddess Kali, Lord Ganesha, and Ayyanar and continues to be a major Hindu pilgrimage centre.
  • Proceed to Manavari Temple, one of the most sacred Ramayana sites in Sri Lanka. This is believed to be the first location where Lord Rama installed and worshipped a Shiva Lingam. The lingam here is known as Ramalinga Shivan and holds exceptional importance among Ramayana followers. After completing the visits, continue to Dambulla.

Ravana’s Devotion to Shiva & Eastern Sacred Coast

  • After breakfast, check out and proceed to the historic coastal city of Trincomalee.
  • Visit Thiru Koneshwaram Temple, located atop Swami Rock overlooking the Indian Ocean. This temple is one of the Pancha Ishwarams, the five most sacred Shiva temples of Sri Lanka. According to legend, the temple was established by Sage Agastya and was a place of worship for King Ravana, a great devotee of Lord Shiva, who is believed to have worshipped here along with his mother.
  • Next, visit the Shankar Temple, an ancient shrine believed to date back to the era of the Pandavas. Dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, the temple is located in a peaceful natural setting and is revered by pilgrims for its antiquity and spiritual energy.
  • Later, proceed to Kandy, the cultural heart of Sri Lanka.

Hanuman’s Search & Sita’s Captivity Sites

  • After breakfast, check out and travel through scenic hill country landscapes towards Nuwara Eliya.
  • En route, visit Ramboda Falls, one of the tallest and most picturesque waterfalls in Sri Lanka.
  • Continue to the Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple, situated in Ramboda village. According to Ramayana belief, this region was searched by Lord Hanuman while looking for Goddess Sita. The temple, built by the Chinmaya Mission, houses a prominent Hanuman statue and offers panoramic views of the surrounding valley.
  • Proceed to the Seetha Amman Temple near Hakgala. This is the only temple in the world dedicated exclusively to Goddess Sita. According to legend, Sita was held captive at this location by King Ravana. The nearby stream and rock formations are believed to bear marks associated with Lord Hanuman.
  • Visit Gayathri Peedam, the first temple in Sri Lanka dedicated to Goddess Gayathri. The temple houses a sacred Shiva Lingam believed to have been brought from the holy River Narmada in India, making it an important Shakti and Shaiva pilgrimage site.

Agni Pariksha & Ravana Legends

  • After breakfast, proceed towards Ella, a region closely associated with Ramayana legends.
  • Visit Divurumpola Temple, the sacred site where Goddess Sita is believed to have undergone the Agni Pariksha to prove her purity after being rescued by Lord Rama. Though the site is a Buddhist temple today, it holds great significance for Hindu pilgrims due to its Ramayana connection.
  • Continue to Ravana Falls, believed to be one of the locations where King Ravana hid Sita during her captivity. Nearby is the Ravana Cave, located at a higher elevation, believed to have been used by Ravana as a secret shelter. Archaeological studies have also revealed evidence of prehistoric human habitation in the cave.
  • Proceed to Kataragama after completing the visits.

  • Proceed to Colombo, the commercial capital of Sri Lanka.
  • Visit the Vibheeshana Temple, dedicated to Vibheeshana, the righteous brother of King Ravana, who supported Lord Rama and is believed to have ruled Lanka after Ravana’s defeat.
  • Visit the Anjaneyar Temple, associated with Lord Hanuman’s presence and blessings in Sri Lanka.
  • Enjoy a Colombo city tour and time for shopping at local markets and shopping complexes.
